Instagram lately....

Sorry, I've been MIA lately. I'm super busy trying to make my little crochet business become a reality. I want this to be a full time job for me and I know I can make it happen with a lot of hard work and dedication. I have two shows that I'm getting ready for and am proud to say that my line was picked up by yet another really awesome boutique called A Town. That's not all..... I'm planning on reaching out to even more boutiques soon. I'm a woman on a mission with a dream. Here's a little sneak peek at what I've been working on.

In late August I have a new kind of show that I'm participating in. It seems like a show that I will do well at..... but you never know. My fingers are crossed! It's called There be Monsters Con. I'm making a lot more Amigurumi toys for this show including my cyclops guy that should be pretty popular with the crowd.

I'm also very lucky to be a vendor in Austin Craft Riot's Summer show this year! I'm so excited about it and am really nervous. I've been crocheting my butt off trying to get a good amount of heads ready. I seriously hope I have enough!

I'm also taking the time to make some fun little sweet treats as well. Cupcakes are always a good seller at shows.

I've been working more like an assembly line now rather than doing one head at a time. I think it's faster and seems to be more productive.

I've made a bunch of my hair bows as well. These little felt guys are pretty popular.... they were featured in a book a few years back called "The Hat Shop". It was a great experience.

I have some very cute and clever DIY's stored up that I can't wait to share with everyone.
This is one of them.

Austin wouldn't be complete without Matthew McConaughey graffiti.

Right now I live for the weekends. My schedule at work has changed and I now work mid shift from 11-8pm. I absolutely hate it! The only joy that I get besides crocheting is coming home after work to Lucy, Matt and the chickens and sitting out on the back porch with Matt talking about how our day went. I miss all that now and it really takes a toll on me. The weekends are our time to relax and hangout together and catch up on our sleep.... that is if Lucy let's us.

I recently went to The Steeping Room with my bestie Mandy of Nestled in Nostalgia. It was delicious and can't wait to take Matt back there.

These are our two cute new cactus's. I love how bright and happy they are. Matt planted them on the "green roof" of the chicken coop. They look awesome!

The Mister and I had the pleasure of hanging out with one of his good old friends from back home in Ohio. We all had a great time and enjoyed some very awesome bloody Mary's at The Shady Grove.

Lastly, here are the babies Penelope and Betty. They have grown so much in the last few months..... it's hard to believe that they were once little chicks that loved to be held. They are super crazy, funny chickens. Penelope especially. I love to watch them play around in the yard. I feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful life and home here in Austin with my handsome lumberjack of a husband and our cute little baby pup Lucy and these two feathery friends. I can't wait to post more about the upcoming shows. Hope everyone is having a fabulous hump day.

A trip to the Blanton

This last Sunday the Mister and I decided to take a trip to The Blanton Art Museum. It was way over due.... we have lived in Austin for over 4 years now and have never been. It was amazing! I really wanted to go to see the new exhibition called "lifelike". It was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. Here are some photo's that I snapped while no one was looking. I couldn't use my flash so excuse the blurriness.

One of my all time favorite artists Chuck Close. This is his self portrait.

I know my friend Anna (whom majored in Mid Evil Art History) would kill me but I have to admit I love modern art.

Look, I match!

Bones and pennies..... hmmmmm.

This photo of Matt makes me think about the bit in the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day off" when they all go to The Chicago Art Institute and Cameron stands fixated on the little girl in  Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.

Andy Warhol

This little Donkey made us laugh. He is painted in a serious Renaissance scene but appears as though he's photo bombing it.

I loved this room set up in "lifelike". It's straight from the 70's and awesomely enough I matched perfectly.

This is what I really came to see. The mini sized elevator doors that actually work.

To give you an example of how small they really are here I am.

If you are local or are in the area...I highly recommend seeing this exhibition. It's quite fun. I enjoyed watching the Mister look at all the art and we had fun together exploring the museum. The gift shop was awesome as well.

A trip to Wimberley

Can the 4th of July holiday just last all month long? I love the decorations and the festivities of Independence Day so much I just want it to linger a little while longer. The Mister and I took a day trip to Wimberley, Texas to check out Jacob's Hole which is literally a really deep swimming hole. We actually dawdled around too long and never made it to see the hole but did have time to look around some local shops and drink some refreshing Margarita's and beer. Just what was needed for a hot July day. The little town was decked out with red, white and blue decor as far as the eye could see. Garland everywhere...... it was so pretty. I couldn't resist capturing the moment for everyone to see.

I always love visiting Wimberly. It's about an hour drive from Austin with beautiful scenery all along the way. We went through Hill Country and got to see a bunch of cute little antique Ma and Pa stores.

It was a glorious day.

I love all the old fashioned decorations. Very patriotic eh?

I love this dress I got from Dots! Yup, that's right....dot's has some cute clothes sometimes.

Now to relax and drink some adult beverages along the river.

Best Margarita I have had in a very long time.

That was our Sunday in Wimberley. I really didn't have much of a weekend as I had to work Saturday. I have been worn out lately from doing so much that we wanted to have a nice calm and relaxing Sunday before the work week started. What has everyone else been up to recently?

Crushing on Alex Winter.....excellent!

You may recognize Alex Winter from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" or the vampire from
"The Lost Boy's".... but what most people don't know about Alex is that he is also a director and producer. I got the pleasure of watching one of  Alex's movies that he not only starred in but directed with his buddy Tim Stern called "Freaked". I've seen him in "Freaked" before when I was younger and appreciated it's dark humor and goriness but never knew who Alex Winter was by name and that he was the creator and co-producer. Oh sure I had a huge crush on him when I was little from watching "Bill and Ted's" and "The Lost Boy's"....but now I had a whole other reason the crush on him. Not only is he still adorable but very talented and an all around nice guy. So I was looking for some fun things for me and the Mister to do in Austin and got onto The Alamo Draft House website to see if there were anything cool to do and lo and behold I saw that Alex Winter was going to be at The Draft house for a Q & A for his movie "Freaked"! Oh joy! I bought two tickets and thought of nothing but meeting Alex for the next few days. When the 2nd of July finally  arrived I spruced myself up and drove on down to The Ritz with the Mister to watch "Freaked".... I ordered myself some fried pickles (that's the only way to go) and a Sangria. It was balls hot out that day and I was in a Sangria state of mind. I'm normally not a fruity kinda gal. We got there a little early so we got to see a few clips from back in the day called "Idiot Box" when Alex was on MTV. There are pretty clever.... check it out.

How adorable right?
Here's the trailer for "Freaked". With a random cast with such actors as Mr.T, Randy Quaid, Bobcat Goldthwait, Brooke Shields, Keanu Reeves (whom never was credited) and many many more talented people. To see the full cast click here.

So the movie ended and the lights came up and it was Q & A time. There were a lot of good questions about the effects and makeup that I didn't know about as well as the some funny stories about The Butt Hole Surfers. I was squirming in my seat because I really wanted a picture of Alex and I together. I know I'm lame but I am completely star struck! I don't normally care about too many movie stars but for some reason I actually do care....maybe it's because he is more REAL that other stars, or maybe it's because he is a down to earth kinda guy that brought his son with him.... I don't know. Basically I got too nervous to ask for a picture and took off super fast. I am kicking myself now for being so shy.... what's the worst thing that could have happened? I would have looked like a total dork but I'm kinda used to that by now. Gah! The Mister was down and was totally prepared and willing to play along. FML. Never again will I get the opportunity to meet my star crush Alex Winter..... sigh. Such is life.

Now I live you with some images from the movie "Freaked"

Friends like these.....

I've been having so much fun lately with my girls I just had to share it with everyone. Last Saturday we all got together with our husbears to celebrate our dear friend Mandy's 27th birthday. You all know my good friend Mandy from Nestled in Nostalgia right? Well if you don't... you must check our her very fun bloggy. So to continue on with my story.....we all feasted on a very delicious tri tip that James and Mandy had prepared for us.... and I have to say my favorite Orzo summer salad made by none other Mandy Pandy. Very delicious indeed. We drank and ate and were very merry. After dinner and all of our stories were told we decided to play apples to apples which if you haven't played it it's a very fun entertaining game for all. By the end of the game everyone was in tears from laughing so hard. We moved on to watch one of my favorite science fiction/ horror flicks "The Thing" starring Kurt Russell..... what a guy! He is so awesome in this movie!!! We all ended up getting sleepy halfway through the movie and called it a night. We all had to work the next day and had worn ourselves out having so much fun. It was an awesome ending to a great day. I love my friends so much. Sadly, we were missing two of our buddies and baby bear Dominique and her husbear Burke and Hambug (their little one). But on a happier note I made a new friend Cali. Cali is a singer in a cover band with Mandy and she was invited over to join in the fun. She is a very talented, sweet girl and I look forward to seeing her more often. Here are some very goofy pictures we snapped while the boys were busy chatting. On the left is Megan Cano, Mandy Bustamante and me. I love this app that I downloaded.... it's called Pocketbooth. I love to whip it out for special occasions. These pictures crack me up! Hope everyone is having a fun week... I would love to hear what everyone has been doing.

The Blue Hole

There's a lot of awesome watering holes and secret spots to chill out at in Austin but one of my favorite places to float is The Blue Hole in Georgetown, Texas. It's just a short drive from Austin and is never too crowded like Barton Springs or Hamilton Pool are. The Mister and I discovered this little piece of heaven through some mutual friends that lived near by. We made the the trip out there one day and feel in love with the surroundings. How could you not? The hole is surrounded by limestone bluffs making it a wonderful place to go cliff jumping.... though not encouraged it always ends up being the case. The Blue Hole is actually a portion of The San Gabriel river making it's temperature warmer than the usual swimming holes. This is exactly what we did last Sunday. Since Austin has been experiencing high temperatures in the upper 100's we thought it was the only right thing to do. It was a wonderful day...hot but beautiful. We brought our little floats and drifted along for a few hours with dragonflies buzzing all around us and landing on the tips of our toes. Everyone was happy, laughing and playing. When we were finished floating we took a little break and drank some ice cold brew that we had packed along with some snacks. It was a good day and a great way to spend with the one you love. It's moments like these that I hope to remember and cherish forever.
 ..

I hope everyone is having an awesome summer so far. I would love to hear about everyone's plans....anything special or new?
