Blog of the Month.....The Pink Samurai!!

The very cute and very talented Becky of The Pink Samurai stopped by for a visit at The Austin Flea last Saturday. I happened to be M.I.A. but my Husbear Matt got to chat it up with her. I was super excited to find out that she had blogged about The Flea and included me and my good friend Lisa in it as well! Yippeeee! I immediately jumped on my computer and checked it out. I was so delighted to see a very cute and petite fellow crafter..... not only is Becky a blogger but is an avid crocheter like myself. How wonderful to have a fellow crocheter not only appreciate your work.... and I too appreciate her cute little scarves that she makes. Becky has been selling scarves on ETSY for about 6 years now and Oh how adorable they are. Here's the sweetest picture of Becky in her own scarf!

Letting go and saying goodbye.......

This weekend was one of the best and the worst weekends I've had in quite sometime. The best and the worst you say? Let me explain..... I'll give you the bad news first. It's always best just to get it over with. Just rip it off like a band aid. Our dearest baby chicken Penelope lost her life this Sunday September, 22nd. It happened so fast.... it was unreal. She wasn't "just a chicken" to us, she was more than that. We raised her from a little chick and watched her grow and change into a little adult chicken and even had the joy of receiving a few eggs from her before she passed. She was a good chicken, with TONS of personality. Even my husband Matt agreed that she was the kookiest chicken he'd come in contact with and that's saying a lot considering Matt was raised on a farm full of chickens. We think that she got caught on some loose wire that we had stored under our shed in the backyard. Matt heard her thrashing around and ran out to the backyard and dragged her out from underneath the deck. She died in my arms very fast. Confused and bewildered we checked her body for signs of snake bites...wounds of any sort but couldn't find anything except a drop of blood on her crest. We are pretty sure she panicked and broke her own neck. Matt buried her body in the backyard near some cacti. Poor Betty (our other chicken) has been crying ever since. I'm pretty sure I'm going to come home from work today to find a bunch of baby chicks in our house.
It's very sad for me because they were my joy. I would wake up in the morning and grab my coffee and take the pups outside to play. I would sit on the deck and watch the doggy's roam around and let the chickens out of their coop. I loved to watch them run around and be silly.... especially Penelope. She was the "wild one".... always chasing after Lucy and pecking at our toes. If you follow me on Instagram you'd know how I'd love to photograph them @nothingbutapigeon. These images were actually taken the morning right before her passing. Matt even bought me this necklace above because he said it reminded him of Penelope and Betty when they were chicks. How sweet is that?
On a lighter note....it was the best weekend as well because it's the first time I've been clear headed in quite awhile. When I say "clear headed" I pretty much mean sober. I've finally made the decision to stop drinking completely and am slowly finding a little bit of peace in my life. More on that later......
Penelope is the black and white speckled hen....Betty is all brown. Penelope is a Mottled Java and Betty is a Dutch Brown Leghorn. We bought them together and they grew up together and were inseparable. This is the awesome chicken coop that Matt designed for them. It's a green coop with live plants growing on the roof to provide them shade and to naturally cool down the temperature of the coop itself. Isn't it neat? It's almost a tiny replica of our house!
Penelope on the prowl scouting out for bugs.
This dress I bought from Target along with the hat. I wanted a new fall hat and couldn't wait to break it out on the first real Fall feeling day. The weather was awesome this weekend but I'm sure it will slowly crawl back up to the high 90's here soon. We will miss Penelope....she lived a great life with us.
A much better life than most chickens get to have and that I am grateful for.
We will miss you dearly sweet Penelope.

Flea with me.....

Happy Friday everyone! Sorry, this post is overdue. I've been so busy crocheting for shows that I neglected to give everyone an update. Saturday, September 14th I participated in The Austin Flea. I was so excited to join my fellow artist's and was very happy to see familiar faces. I also met some very awesome people that I know I will be in contact with in the future. I didn't sell as much as I anticipated but it was great to get to chat with fellow craft riot member's and introduce myself and my brand to others. All in all it was a good experience. Here's a little glimpse of Saturday. Enjoy!

I was center stage at The Flea. I actually had to coax people to come up the stairs and look at my products.

There was a creepy cherub that was hanging over the stage by my booth. I like to think he was watching over Nothing but a Pigeon but who knows. Weird!

Up-cycled tie's!

The fabulous Joyce Hazlerig of Gypsyharte

The lovely and very talented Honey Punch

Lastly, Bri Ussery of The Good Hippie. I just simply adore her and her wonderful products which I now have a mini stock pile at home now.
I was also was introduced to Annie Harding and Bruce Willenzik...... the producer's of
The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. What luck! I'm so applying for The Bazaar next year... better start crocheting and putting away goods now! Ha! Later Lisa of Feto Soap and I went out and had a girl's night out on the town which I'm still recovering from. I just love that I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful new and talented people. I'm truly blessed and really cherish these new friendships. Hope you enjoyed this post. Have a great weekend!

Traditional Tuesday..... yea I know it's Monday.

I've always been attracted to "Traditional Tattoo's" and have been playing with the idea of getting more. Something meaningful of course. I've had a lot of recent changes in my life lately and feel the need to get something permanent to remind myself of all the trials and tribulations I and my family have faced and what better way to do it than a tattoo. Like scars, tattoo's are my way of holding on, digesting and remembering the significant things that have happened throughout my life. Taryn
(my sister) and I share the same tattoo both on separate forearms. They are silhouettes of birds flying in the distance. I think we decided to get them because there were a few years in our lives when we were completely separate from each other.... not because we wanted to be but because we were at different places in our own lives and were doing our "own things". We didn't talk much and there were hurt feelings but there is a silver lining to this story.... we decided that we were never going to be apart from each other or lose touch no matter how "physically" far life takes us both. I don't want to say too much about what happened, or why it happened and what hurtful things that we said to one another.... in the end it doesn't matter because we are sister's and will always love each other no matter what happens. Wow, this post is getting more "deep" than I thought it was going to be. My point is.... is that we all get tattoo's that mean something to us for various reasons and I'm at a stage in my life right now were I feel that I am ready to get a new piece because I'm facing certain things right now that are going to drastically effect the person whom I was, am and are going to become. Do I sound like a broken record? Sigh...... let's just take a moment to admire these beautiful works of body art.

Does anyone have any inspirational tattoo stories to tell? When I come up with the idea and design I make give everyone a sneak peak. My husband won't be very happy about it though.... he doesn't like tattoo's on me. We will have to wait and see and save the $.

Austin Flea....here I come!!

I'm so excited to announce that This Saturday September 14th, 2013 I'll be attending The Austin Flea! From 11:00am to 5:00pm you can check out Nothing but a Pigeon and many other awesome vendor's at
The Spider House Ballroom at 2906 Fruth St. I've been crocheting my little finger's to the bone in preparation for not only this show but also upcoming Holiday Show's. I'm not sure if I've been accepted yet but have applied to both The Blue Genie Art Bazaar and Cherrywood Art Fair. So keep your fingers crossed for me! I also have recently taken the time to photograph and upload all my new designs to ETSY. It literally took all day and I'm still not finished completely! It does look a whole lot better than it did before and now I can actually start making stuff to order and help move this little business onward! I still have yet to update my Big Cartel site but that is the next step in this journey. It feels good to actually accomplish something. I'm always applying for shows and they always request to see your websites so it feels good to be able to show my work and be proud of the way it looks. Gosh! When did I become so professional? Here's some of my new designs that I have uploaded. I'm always working on new patterns and trying to create more cuteness for the world. Enjoy!

So that's about all for the new patterns. I still have yet to upload my Walrus's and Narwhal's. It will be so much easier now to update my site from now on and I won't have this huge project looming over my head anymore. Hope you all enjoyed this post and I hope to see you all this Saturday at The Austin Flea!
