Bohemian goth

Well we survived the storm! That's right, for all of you that don't know.... Texas had a bunch of severe thunderstorm's followed by tornado's and flooding! We were very lucky although it did get a little scary for a minute. Some people were left with no power and flood damage to their homes. I've never seen so much rain in all my life and they say there are more storms to come throughout the week and into the weekend. It's literally been raining for the past three weeks here on and off but yesterday was unbelievable! I'm still planing on participating in The Little Craft Show in Arkansas this weekend even though I'm scared to leave the Husbear and our two fur babies behind... I'm pretty confident that my woodsy, outdoorsy Husband knows how to take care of himself. Why he even dug a trench around our home in order to divert the water into the street. What a guy! I feel horrible for those people (and some of my friends) who's homes were damaged... nature is certainly a bitch sometimes!

These images were taken a few weeks ago when there was actually a break in the rain... you can still tell it was all gloomy however. At least our lake levels are up and looking good. The Hubby told me that the Lake Travis went up about a good eight feet in one day! That's amazing! We might be able to enjoy our beautiful Lake once again like we used to when we first moved here over six years ago.

I've been wearing a lot of black lately... maybe it's on account of all the rain. It's just so easy and you don't have to think about matching. This is a good example of what I'll be wearing this Summer.
I might opt for more comfy shoes though....

This fun Kimono I purchased a long time ago at Target and haven't worn it until now... I have to say it goes pretty well with this black sundress that I'm obsessed with. It my new "go to dress". Just add a black floppy hat and over sized sunnies and I'm good to go.

I've been having a lot of good hair days recently too. I think it's on a count of me not caring so much about styling it and am truly embracing the messy look. I don't even blow dry it most days now anymore and just put it up in a top knot which leads to a delightfully unexpected swirly and very large loopy curls. Voila! I think it's also because I've finally stuck to actually growing my bangs out now. I've been fighting the urge to cut them and have resisted temptation long enough and am now rockin' the middle part.

Well, I'm off to finish up some last minute crochet taxi heads for The Little Craft Show and then I'll be  road trippin' with my crafty lady friends Bri of The Good Hippie and Lauren of
Little Skunk Co. When I return I will be full on diving into writing my crochet book. That's right folks, it's actually happening. I've signed a contract with Storey Publishing Company whom I adore! I'm thrilled to be making my dreams of becoming an Author come true. If all goes well my book will be out in 2016! Unfortunately, my Etsy Shop will be closed until August when my final manuscript is due but then I'll be re-open for business! I'm still keeping my stores fully stocked as well so you can still find my work around Austin, Houston and Dallas. That's about all the news from this girl! Hope all you kitten's are staying dry!

Jacoby's

Happy Memorial Day! Yay for no work! So... a few weekends back my gal pal (and neighbor) Gina invited me and the Mister out to Happy Hour with her and her Husbear to Jacoby's. Le Husband and I have never been there before but are always down for trying new up and coming restaurants, especially if they are on in our neck of the woods on the east side of town. We were pleasantly delighted by the initial atmosphere and eclectic vibe we got as we walked in the door. It was like walking into a dimly lit barn house (which I adore). Our food was even served in old enamel ware dishes and bowls! It was like taking a trip back to the good ol' camping days. The food was amazing of course and I'm not even what you'd call a real meat eater. I hardly ever eat red meat but when I do I want it (the cow meat) to be grass fed and farm raised the way a cow should be raised. Which they are....

All the meat comes directly from The Jacoby Farm were it's grass fed. They even sell their meat in the little shop attached to them literally right next door. I was so impressed with their little store that I wanted to buy everything in there for our home. I love all the collectible milk glass that was for sale as well as all the hand woven pillows. I could have spent hours in that store just looking and admiring all the glorious splendor....

I'm officially now obsessed with milk glass. We have a few pieces that we've kept over the years that have survived our 7 moves around Ohio and then to Austin, Texas. I'd like to start collecting more in the future.

Tons of terrariums and weathered sticks and logs all over as well as a wonderful collection of brass pots and other delightful trinkets.

I adore these pillows!! Also, check out those antlers.

It was a great experience eating there. I didn't even describe the amazing back patio that we sipped our moscow mule and wine on while we enjoyed the fabulous view... I can't wait to take my sister and brother in law back there when they come into town. It was a fun intimate dining experience that I'd like to share with them.

ethereal beauty...

It's mid-week and I'm finally starting to get back in the groove of things. I swear... participating in shows really takes it out of me. I was completely exhausted for about two days after The Renegade Craft Fair. Monday was just an "off day" for me.... I felt like a zombie and really couldn't get much of anything done. I really hate being unproductive. Le sigh....
The Mister and I managed to take these pretty little pictures last week before the monsoon came through Austin. We've had so much rain here the past week it's been unreal. I thought our poor chickens were going to float away! The Mister even had to dig a trench around one side of our house, so now we essentially have a moat around our home. Now all we need is a little draw-bridge and we're all set. Ha! It hasn't rained this much in all the 8 years that we've lived here in Texas. Don't get me wrong; we desperately need it but it's so depressing and dreary outside : /
This was the one time that the rain actually broke and the sun decided to make an appearance... just for a little while. With all this rain comes even more beautiful fields of flowers and I've been able to catch a glimpse of some wonderful rainbows as well. It's not all bad. It's also nice because last year this time it was blazing hot already and all this rain is helping things stay cool....

This dress is one of my old favorites. I bought it years ago from Forever 21 and have managed to hang onto it and not donate it or sell it. I forgot about it for awhile but I think it's going to be one of my Summer favorites this year. I'm really into the bohemian look once again.... I think I've pretty much got the look down.

These are flowers are known as "Indian blanket" or "Fire Wheel", they are an annual flower from the Aster Family. Aren't they just beautiful!?

This beautiful field of flowers is literally right up our street. I like to visit it often to see which flowers are blooming. Last month it was covered in Bluebonnet's and Indian Paintbrush's. We haven't seen any Black-Eyed Susan's yet here this year...

At the end of this month I'm heading off to Arkansas to The Little Craft Show with some dear friends of mine. It's going to be a long drive with frequent stops along the way but hopefully in the end we will have a good show and have met a lot of new and wonderful makers. I'm excited to see a new city that has a huge crafting scene like Austin does. In the meanwhile I'll be crocheting away and writing down some new patterns. This last show will complete my Spring shows that I'll be participating in. I don't think I'll be partaking in anything else until the Winter Holiday Season is upon us. That gives me plenty of time to complete my book and start to get everything ready for Winter when I make the majority of my sales. I think I've got this year all figured out... hopefully there won't be too many bumps in the road. I've had enough of those (in the past) to last me a whole lifetime. Ha!

I hope everyone is having a splendid week. Does anyone have any awesome plans for this weekend? I plan on maybe making a few trips to either Ikea or the Home Depot. The Mister is working on a Farm Table for our dining room. It's going to be beautiful and big enough to sit 6 people so we will be able to really entertain.

A Maternity session

Happy Monday! I'm awake but recovering from a long weekend at The Renegade Craft Fair. It was an amazing turn out and I'm so happy I decided to participate yet again. I wanted to share a few images I snapped of my BFF and her Husbear who are expecting their first child... a baby girl this Summer. I met Anna a little over 10 years ago in Columbus, Ohio when she was a mere 17 year old and we were both working for Cord Camera. We became friends and managed to even move to Texas within a year of each other. I was blessed and honored with attending and taking their wedding pictures in Ohio last year. Needless to say, I've been through a lot with this gal and I'm so thrilled to see her little family grow. It's a weird and fascinating thing to see your friend go through a pregnancy. We've laughed about a lot of things and I have even been brought to a few tears of joy as well. I'm sure once her little bundle of joy arrives there will be more tears shed. Anna and Tellis are a totally casual couple that love to joke around and poke fun at each other which made for a very whimsical and delightful photo shoot.

Hope you enjoyed this fun little impromptu Maternity shoot!

young edwardian

Hi there kitten's! What a gloomy week this has been here in Austin... the rain hasn't stopped and our backyard as well as our chicken coop is completely flooded. I haven't even ventured outside to the backyard since this past weekend. It's literally a mud pit back there.

Besides the constant rain I've also had constant anxiety too. Nothing new there... I think it's a combination of not working out all last week (due to a hip flexor injury) and all these upcoming shows I have as well as other personal struggles that I've been dealing with. The weather being crappy is just the cherry on top of my cake.

On a side note... I picked up this dress at my favorite local thrift store and was super excited that I finally found an amazing Bohemian/ Florence Welch inspired piece of clothing. When I got home, I was cutting all the tags off my clothing in order to throw them in the wash and saw that the label on this dress read: Young Edwardian. Turns out this dress is more like Renaissance chic rather than Bohemian chic. So if I ever go a The Renaissance Festival (which I probably will because I'm a nerd like that) than I'll be all set.

In the meantime I like to pretend that I'm a young bohemian....

I'm pretty much obsessed with the dusty pink color and the floral motif as well as the black crushed velvet piping it's got going on here. I'm also obsessed with Bolo Ties at the moment and can't decide if I should go ahead and buy one online. I found this gold, feminine looking one at Forever 21 and have been wearing it with anything and everything so far so I guess I mine as well commit to the whole bolo look right?!

This is about the only time of year I could get away with wearing this get up. The weather is still pretty mild this Spring on account of all the rain. Last time this year I believe it was already in the 90's in May. This dress is pretty heavy duty so I won't be wearing it this Summer... it'll be my early Spring/Winter dress which is okay with me.

Hope everyone is having a swell work week so far. I'm getting everything ready for The Renegade Craft Fair this weekend! I always get nervous before big shows... more like butterflies in my stomach!! I'm glad that the Mister will be there helping me set up and tear down my booth and that there is no traveling involved with this show. It's actually in my neck of the woods on the eastside of town this year. I'm pretty excited about the new venue. Here's to a good show!!

White hot

Happy Monday kitten's!! Where did the weekend go? I can''t believe how fast this Spring seems to be flying by. I had a great weekend with some great friends. I also go some much needed crochet patterns accomplished and written down.

I literally forgot to smile in these first two images. Ha! They crack me up. It's hard when you're taking your own photographs to remember to pose and fix your face as your pushing that remote button repeatedly. Le sigh.....

This is kinda of a different look for me but one that I'm getting fond of. I found this white dress at the thrift store and instantly fell in love with it. It may be a shirt... I really don't know but I love it just the same.

I'm really getting into "soft grunge" or what the kids are calling "pastel goth". From the looks of it the two can kinda intermix and mingle producing a very sweet girly look with a bit of an edge. It pretty much fits my personality as well as vibe lately....

I'm obsessed with the faux biker boots. I try not to wear real leather on account of moral issues. I do however eat white meat (not pork) as well as fish. I also try not to buy any products that are tested on animals. It's hard sometimes because those guys are sneaky. You have to read labels and even then sometimes you are confused and bewildered. I'm not an overbearing freak about it though.... if I eat a bite of red meat occasionally I'm not going to run home and flog myself or anything. I just don't go out of my way to seek out a hamburger or steak nor do I really crave it. I'm also not that type of gal to  beat people over the head with my beliefs.

I'm super excited that I got to break out my flower crown I snagged last year at The Renegade Craft Fair. I bought it from Garden Head Co.  I bought two and have been waiting for the right moment to wear them and I'm pretty sure I nailed it with this one. I mean who doesn't love a good flower crown... especially one with daisies.

Our front yard is looking pretty swell and might I say lush?! The Pride of Barbados is coming back up and soon we will have delightful orange blossoms everywhere. I'm also digging our palm which has gotten crazy big and our agave plant (in the orange pot) that stabs me in the legs every time I walk outside the front door.

I was having quite the good hair day.... even though the humidity has been through the roof these days on account of all the rain it still managed to keep some of the curl. I'm pretty sure I'm growing out my bangs. I like the middle part deal I've been rockin' lately, it's new and different but I have a pretty swell forehead so I'll be showing it off this Summer. The bangs are the curtains and my face is center stage. Ha!

Damn! I can look tough when I want to.

I can't wait to get back into my workout routine again. It's been a whole week since I injured my hip which still bothers me but I think I'm going to try to ease into my workout videos
(which I'm obsessed with). I gained 2lbs back this week from not working out everyday and I splurged this weekend as well. Sometimes it's two steps forward, one step back kinda deal. You gotta live a little bit though... we can't all be saints.

It's cool, I'll keep on keepin' on and lose the rest of the weight that I intended to lose. I have to say life is more pleasant when you can actually fit into your clothes and feel good about yourself.

I think this dress will be another Summer staple... it's just so easy to wear. I may have to wear some little white shorts underneath them though.

I hope all you hot Momma's out there and Fur Momma's alike had an amazing Mother's Day!
This week I'll be crocheting my little heart out in preparation for The Renegade Craft Fair on the east side of town no less. I'm super excited! I'll be seeing all you kitten's there. Meow meow!
