Summer inspiration....

Happy Friday everyone! TGIF for reals!!! I have so much planned for this weekend I'm not going to have anytime to sit down. Lol. Tonight The Mister and I are hosting a retirement party for one of his good friends and colleges at our house! Gah!! I've decided to not get all bent out of shape and worry about anything. Usually I panic when we entertain at our place but I'm not going to let myself get up tight tonight. I want this summer to be peaceful and relaxing and full of fun. The house is mostly clean but I'm going to let the Mister deal with all of the other details. Speaking of this summer.... I wanted to share some summer inspiration that I've been pinning. I've been really into boho chic right now
(if you couldn't tell) and have found some lovely images that get me in the mood for fun in the sun.

I love love love crochet details and tie dye.... I'm also loving all sorts of bangles and bracelets and rings. I've been obsessing over cut offs and have made several pair for this summer. Floral crowns and big floppy hats here I come! I hope you all have awesome plans for this weekend as well.... what is everyone getting into?

Instagram lately.....

June has been a busy month for me. Relatives coming into town, surgery... getting used to a new schedule as well as hosting a retirement party for one of the Mister's co-workers. Whew! I have managed to experiment with some DIY's and have crocheted my little heart out in preparation for The Craft Riot show that is coming up in August. I scored some really awesome clothes at the thrift store, made my first Frittata
(which was delicious) and The Mister finished the green roof on the chicken coop! Here's a glimpse of  my June....

Peace, love and tie dye DIY

Happy Monday everyone! Did everyone have an awesome weekend? I'm still tired and worn out from our excursions. It was great seeing our relatives and spending time catching up with them. The Mister and I also spend some time sprucing up our screened in porch. It's coming along quite nicely. Well I have a fun DIY for ya'll today. I've been feeling really creative lately and wanted to try out some bleaching techniques. I found an old tee and bought some jeans at a local thrift store; I wanted to make the jeans cut offs that were weathered and worn looking. I also had and idea in mind for the tee.... I experimented before with some leggings, basically using the tie dye method with rubber bands to make the circles. It turned out way better than I thought it would. Ta da!

So here's the materials that you will need. Your jeans and tee, rubber bands, a bucket or large bowl and bleach. I first cut my jeans into shorts and "ruffed them up" a bit by cutting slits into the jean pockets and the edges. I knew that when I washed and dried them they would start to fray....giving it that distressed look.
I used about a cup of bleach and filled my bowl full of water. I highly suggest using plastic gloves for this part! I then dipped my cut offs in the bowl and left them in there for a good 10 minutes or so. You can leave them in there longer to get more of a bleached look. I just wanted mine to be bleached at the bottom. I then used the rubber bands on my tee to create the "tie dye" look. You can use many different methods to achieve your desired look. I wanted circles. I then switched out my shorts and plopped in my tee. I hosed off my shorts outside with water so that I would drip bleach all throughout the house. After about 5 minutes I took my tee out and cut off all the rubber bands and laid out my tee to hose it off. I squeezed out as much water as I could in them and put them into the bowl to take inside to wash. I filled my washer with a cup of regular detergent and warm water then plopped my tee and shorts in for a good warm wash. I them dried them in the dryer on high.

Voila!!! A fun outfit that is quite fitting for the 4th of July.... don't you think? If you have any questions about the process you can shoot me an e-mail. I hope you guys enjoyed this little DIY.

Casual Friday.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have awesome plans for this weekend. I know I do! I'm still healing up from a minor surgery that I had this last Friday but I'm feeling good enough to have some fun in the sun. We have some relatives that we hardly get to see coming into town this weekend so we are going to have a good time showing them around Austin. The Mister and I are also really excited to show them our home which we have been working really hard on to fix up and make our own.
My bestie Christopher Marshall took these photos for me at work. It was really hard to find a decent spot because there are commercial building's as far as the eye can see.... but we managed to find a patch of grass that wasn't too shabby. It was hot.... I mean really hot when we took these photos. It was torture for us both but I'm glad Christopher decided to help me out.
I love this top that I got at XXI awhile back. It's flowy and airy, perfect for summer. The little arrow design is super cute too. I got this ring there as well. It's a knuckle ring with a floral design and little faux gems for the flower buds. I really only wear it when I go out because it gets caught on just about everything. Lol. This nail color is my new favorite shade by Essie called "play date."

Oh! I'm really excited about these geometric, stack-able rings that I got at XXI! They are so delicate and simple. I usually wear them all together on one finger but it would be adorable to wear them on separate fingers as well.

I was taking a time out when Christopher snapped this one. I was trying to fan myself with my little mint clutch. It really wasn't working out that well. I am in love with these sunnies all over again. I had lost these guys for awhile and found them while I was cleaning. I seriously wish that I had bought two pair while I had the chance. Does anyone else do that? You find something that is totally awesome and fits you so well that you buy two just in case?

Me trying to play it cool in the summer heat.

These pictures Christopher snapped with his camera phone and I actually really like. I was walking backwards trying to talk to him and I thought he was trying to film me but instead he was taking stills of me. It's so funny yet to see pictures of yourself "in action." In some way's it gives you a glimpse into how other people see you. It's one thing to look in the mirror but another to see yourself running through fields or in mid conversation with someone else in a photo. It's the "real you." Does that make sense?

I love these new skinnies I got from XXI. They fit perfectly. It's really hard for me to find the right fit and length. It's tough for us shorties. Well guys, I'm off the start my fun filled weekend and will be sure to post about it come next week. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Prim and Proper

Hello there! Is it only Tuesday? I want this week to be over with pronto. My work weeks have become torture with my new schedule 11am-8pm. I feel like I have no time to spend with The Mister or play outside in our garden with the chickens and Lucy. There's not nearly enough time in the morning for projects and when I come home I'm tired and want to go to bed. What's a girl to do? I hear when life gives you lemons you should make lemonade.... so I'm putting my nose to the grindstone and am going to really focus on my little crochet business and try hard to "get out there." I've applied for a winter show and have an up coming show here in August that I'm preparing for. I also am trying to open doors in other areas, like selling in more shops and boutiques around Austin. Someday I hope to make this small business a full time gig.

For right now I live for the weekends.... this weekend we have some family coming into town to visit so that should be fun. I also want to try to get some projects done that I have started and set aside. I always seem to have at least 5 or more projects going on at once and can never seem to finish any of them. Is anyone else like this or is it just me?

Let's talk about this awesome dress I found at a local thrift store.... I've been on a roll lately with finding interesting and affordable clothing while thrifting. It's a gift... what can I say. I bought this little frock brand new from XXI for around 6$ or so. It fits perfectly and I'm loving the cream colored lace for this spring. I usually wear more color but I thought this would be a nice change for the norm.

There are usually more fields of wild flowers around our hood to take pictures in but it's been super dry lately that everything has started to shrivel up and die. It's seriously hot in Austin right now... almost unbearable. I dare say, it's hard to look pretty while you are standing out in the heat getting your picture taken.

I love that my little birdies are visible in these images. I forget that they are even there some days but love to show them off when I can. My sister Taryn has the same tattoo on her opposite arm.... it was a bonding experience for us both.

I get asked about them from time to time..... I think people don't expect a prim and proper girl to have tattoo's. I guess I'm not that prim or proper.

This was my first attempt of an up do since I chopped all nine inches of my hair off. It took a lot of hair spray. It worked out well don't you think?

I adore these little bow earrings that The Mister bought me from Francesca's. They are the only earrings that don't bother my ears. I love how delicate they look and I'm a big fan of bows!

The sunnies I bought from Target ages ago. They pretty much go with everything I own.

So does anyone have awesome plans for the weekend? I will be documenting all my successful projects in order to make a fabulous post. Hope everyone will join me back here soon!
