Here There Be Monsters

Is everyone ready for a fun filled Sunday full of Comic books, Gaming and Larping?
I know I am! I'm proud to announce that I will be vending at this years Here There Be Monsters Convention. I'm not really sure what to expect sale wise but either way it will be a great opportunity to meet new people and get my brand name out there. I love Geekery so I think my crochet Taxidermy heads might just do well. You never know. I can't wait to see people dressed up in costume! I will be taking plenty of photographs to share with everyone. I hope to see you all there and thanks for supporting local artists and geeks alike.

It's official!!

Hello there lovies! I just wanted to share with everyone that the Husbear and I have become proud parents of a little red female Doxie named Sophie! She is adorable and has filled our little family with such joy. Lucy is starting to adapt and we are still house training but only had two accidents thus far.
The Mister and I went through a great rescue organization that is sooo careful when choosing whom they are going to adopt to. It was a long process and was a little nerve wracking but it was so worth it in the long run. Sophie has made a great addition to our little family.

Coming down from a high.....

Hi everyone! This weekend was such a blur. The Craft Riot 2nd Summer Show came and went and I'm still vibrating from the excitement of it all. My feet and back ache and I feel like I haven't slept in a week but it was truly amazing! I met so many new and interesting people. I made buddies with very talented and amazing young women. Saw and talked to tons of awesome people and scored some really cool items. I hardly had any time to document the day because it was soooo busy. There was even people lined up an hour before the doors opened. I was astonished by the turnout and the venue was super cool. As always I shared a booth with my good friend and partner in crime Jodi Hooper of Art Genius. I took some images of our lovely booth for your viewing pleasure.

Jodi and her up-cycled Legos

These two lovely ladies were our booth neighbors. On the left is Lisa Chow of  Lisa Chow art & designs and on the right is Jessica Lopez of Tiny deer Studio. These little darlings are super sweet and super talented and got most of my money that night. I'm swooning over Lisa's whimsical little illustrations which I'm proud to display in my home as well as Jessica's oh so beautiful photographs. I bought four photo's and can't wait to find a spot for them in our bedroom. These girl's were such a pleasure to meet!
I also bought some temporary tattoo's seen above. I purchased two packets the little Victorian homes. Aren't they just adorable?!
I just loved their booth! There display's were super cute.
Look at Lisa's little handkerchief's!!! Gah!
This is me on day two of the Show. The First day was intense and I sold a lot. The second day was so so for me. I still made a boat load and have tons of product left for this upcoming weekend's show
Here there be Monsters Con. The items that I didn't anticipate selling sold out. Apparently Walrus's and Squid's are very popular right now. I'm going to crank out a bunch more for the upcoming show which should be appropriate considering the advertisement poster for the show has a Kraken on it.
I totally ran out of business cards and had to order more and rush them for next weekend. I can't believe the amount of foot traffic there was. Whew!
I ended up having to put a sign up on the Crocodile stating what it was in a little word bubble. People kept thinking it was an anteater. See the reptile eyes guys? Lol.
Meet Lauren Cooke of BetaWife.  Lauren hand makes little felt banners and bunting. They are super cute and super clever! Great for parties and other events. Look at the cupcake toppers! I didn't get to chat with Lauren on the count of it being so busy and I didn't want to cramp her style....she was trying to sell goods and I'm not going to come between a crafty lady and her sales. Lol. Lauren, I totally want to chat with you when we get a chance!!
Look at her cuteness! OMG! She also has some really rad embroidery that I wanted to get my hands on!
Sharing a booth with Lauren is Ashley of Inviting letterpress boutique. I just adore her thank you cards and cute designs and saying's. I'm a big card person. I love stationary and fountain pen's etc..... I send thank you cards whenever I can (My Momma taught me well) and also have a Pen Pal. I'm also diggin' this quote by Tina Fey-
I would love to have this hanging in my house. Bitches DO get things done don't they?
Here's Ashley..... love her cardigan clips BTW. Yes, I notice these things. I wanted to hang around and chat but I had to run back to my booth and check in. Hopefully I will get a chance to purchase or trade with these lovely gals in the future.
I made my rounds to Erica of Liminal designs. Erica and I met when she attended game night at mi casa for a Craft Riot event I hosted. As a fellow crocheter we totally meshed well together right away. Erica is super sweet and talented and check this out..... she spins her own yarn. Okay Erica, stop showing off! Lol.

Look at her go! I totally snagged one of her necklaces. I love mustard yellow so of course I had to get one in that exact color. Pictures to follow.
Moving on we have sweetie pie's April Betancourt of Cresent City Couture and Cricket Burwell of
Southern REbelle. See this apron? It's mine. I loved the mushroom pattern so much I couldn't pass it up. Of course this means I may have to start cooking more. April has some awesome apron designs and the coolest fabric to go with it. She also makes pillows and coin purses etc. She's got mad skills.
Cricket's side was a hodgepodge of goodness. She has some vintage findings as well as her very clever embroidery....oh and did I mention bedazzled deer antler's? The Mister and myself found some really cool vintage dishes and sugar bowl for our kitchen. I could have spent hours in their booth looking at everything. They are very cool and very nice little ladies!
Okay April...I'm coming back to get that Star Wars pillow!
I love these cute and simple paper plane embroidery hoops.
Check out the bedazzled deer antler's. Yup, pretty cool. All in all I had a very busy and exciting two days. I'm exhausted but happy and can't wait to have more shows. I made a bunch of really cool connections and met really good folks. I'm so happy that I chose to join Austin Craft Riot. It has really helped me to come out of my shell and develop not only myself as a person but my brand. I can't wait to see where my business takes me. No time to relax, I must keep on crocheting for next weeks show......

2nd Annual Austin Craft Riot Show!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm soooo looking forward to this weekend. As some of you may know I've been working really hard for this upcoming show that I'm participating in. It's Austin Craft Riot's 2nd Annual Summer Show this Saturday and Sunday. My little hands are super sore and blistered from all the crocheting I've been doing in preparation. Everything is coming together nicely though. I have completed almost all my taxidermy animal heads and only have 3 more to mount and price out. Most of the heads are already packed up and ready to go. Here's some images I've documented along the way.
Many, many foxy parts. Usually I start a taxidermy head by first making the mouths/noses, ears and eye roundies first then I make the actual head and attach the parts at the end. It's easier and faster that way.

Fox's, raccoons and mice.

Mice heads in various colors.

Mid way into July I started lining up my completed heads in order to see how many plaques I needed and what shapes and sizes I would want.

Not only did I make taxidermy crochet heads but I crocheted many many ice cream cones, cupcakes and tarts.

Oh and many macaroons as well!

Some of my cupcakes have whipped cream and strawberries as toppers and some have sprinkles. In Ohio they sprinkles are called Jimmy's.

I have also made a bunch of Amigurumi plushie's. I'm also involved in another upcoming show called
Here There be Monsters. (More on that later)

I've played around and designed more Amigurumi Zombie's and Monster's for the show. I think they will be appropriate don't you?

I also sell a bunch of felt bows and headbands. I actually had my pattern published in a book over a year ago. It was pretty exciting.

Many colors and various sizes.

Here's the pattern that was published in "The Hat Shop"

I bought and stained many many plaques. It was a very long process. Especially getting those damn price stickers off the backs of them.

Here's a little sneak peek at the new displays the Mister has been working so hard on. They fold down for easy storage and transport. I have to say that The Husbear has helped me out with so much of this process. He truly supports me in my little ventures and I am so great full for him. In other exciting news for this upcoming weekend we are adopting a little dachshund from a rescue group. Her name is Sophie and she is the sweetest little pup. We get her Saturday night after we finish the show. I can't wait to cuddle her and love her and pepper her with kisses! That will be a whole other post once we get her. I will be taking many pictures this weekend and will be updating my bloggy frequently. I will also have a very fun giveaway! Hope everyone has awesome plans this weekend.

simple lacy DIY hoops.

Hello there lovies! This is a very simple yet  beautiful lace DIY project that I came up with. I love lace accents and this is an easy way to add accents to your home. I found some very cheap lace curtains in various sizes and patterns at a local thrift store and also purchased some embroidery hoops in multiple sizes from a craft store as well. Embroidery hoops are very inexpensive so this whole DIY only cost me a few dollars!
Here are all the materials that you will need. If you are a crafty Momma like myself that you will already have a hot glue gun and a pair of scissors. If you don't have a glue gun than I highly suggest you invest in one, I use mine for anything and everything.
Step 1: Plug in hot glue gun to heat up. Then cut out various sizes of lace to fit into your different size embroidery hoops. Leave about an inch of extra fabric to work with.
Step 2: Fit lace fabric into the hoops and tighten the thingy (I have no idea what it's called).

Step 3: After the fabric is stretched tight in the hoops cut the excess fabric leaving 1/2 an inch of lace remaining.
It should look something like this. It's better to have more fabric to work with then having less so be careful not to cut off too much.
Step 4: Take your glue gun and start to glue down the excess fabric to the inside of the hoop so it's tight and hidden.
The hoop should look like this from the front. Continue making each hoop the same way.
Voila! These are my finished hoops. They are perfect for hanging on the wall as an accent or use them to hang your jewelry and earrings on. I have mine displayed in our hallway. I hope you like this simple lace DIY. Let me know what you think.
