vintage scooters

My love of vintage scooters runs deep...maybe I take after my Dad, maybe I have always wanted to be on the back of a scooter driving through the streets of Italy with a silk scarf around my head blowing in the breeze..... maybe both. All I know is that I have always wanted a scooter. To be specific and vintage scooter. Dad had little Honda's that he collected...what I wouldn't have given for one of those scooters to be revamped. I want feminine but not pink.... noooo pink. Perhaps teal or light yellow. Yes yellow please. Alas, I'm dreaming out loud. For know I can look at Hipsters parking their expensive knock offs at coffee shops and drift off onto the  narrow cobblestone streets of Rome.....sigh.

Maybe someday my dream will come true and I'll have a little wicker basket to put my fresh vegetables and homemade bread in from the Farmers Market that I had just purchased them from. I think I will host the cutest, quaintest little party serving various cheeses and wine. My guests and I would retire to the patio and chat until we get sleepy. It has been a long day riding all over town on my scooter trying to get everything I needed for my little get together. Whew! What a day

DIY teacup candles

So the Mister and I can across a very cute idea on Pinterest (gotta love it). Teacup candles! So I ran out to a Thrift store right away and bought all the teacups I could find... brought em home and Matt started melting the wax from a collection of old, dead candles we saved. They were vanilla scented so they already smelled good.... all we had to do is add a smidgen of color. Here's some examples of the Teacup candles I saw online. They are Oh so beautiful and make great girls for lovely ladies. You can look on line and find tutorials but it's not that hard. You can go to your local craft store and find all the tools you need to make em...and thrift stores are the best for vintage cups and cute little saucers.

I hope you love Teacup candles as much as I do! I took a ton of pictures of ours on Instagram if you want to check ours out. Feel free to leave a comment.

Sisters on the Fly

This is it! I've hit the mother load of all websites ever created and it's all dedicated to campers! The Mister is going to freak out! Hell, I'm freaking out! This has been a dream of ours for some time now. To live simply and happily ever after in a little camper. I know, it sounds crazy but it's not. It's a beautiful, wonderful thing. I can't contain myself any longer. Enjoy the images you are about to see and in the end you will realize why I and so many other awesome people share this dream. I have to break this post up into different sections because there are so many images and interesting websites to reference I don't want to blow your mind all at once. First we will start with an awesome group of women called "Sisters on the Fly". It's a large group of lovely ladies that restore vintage campers and trailers. No joke! Check out these nifty photos courtesy of Sisters on The Fly.

As you can see these women are bad ass! If you have any comments please feel free to post. Also check out Sisters on The Fly for more lovely pictures.

adventures in canning

The Mister and I had such a large crop this year that we decided to do some canning. We went to Callahans (my favorite store) and got some wide mouth Ball jars and some spices and directions for pickling and canning our very own tomatoes and cucumbers. We also decided to throw some green beans in there... why not right? Read the directions on your spice packet carefully because depending on the amount that you want to can the ratio of spice to vinegar will vary. Seems simple enough but trust me... accidents happen. These are the basic steps for canning, the time and steps like I said will very.

We grew a ton of tomatoes this year so we thought it would be awesome to make salsa. A word of advice.... I will never use a spice packet again for making my own salsa. It tastes really artificial. Next time we can salsa we are going to keep it simple and dice the tomatoes and onions and just use salt and a little pepper and cilantro.

Here's The Mister mixing the tomatoes, onions and the spice packet together and bringing it to a boil for 5 minutes.

We decided to do a spicy batch (for Matt) and a mild batch (for me). These are the jalapenos that Matt added to the hot batch.

We let it come to a boil and turned down the heat a little and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes.

After everything came together we got our wide mouth cans prepped and ready to go. We filled the cans up leaving about a half an inch at the top. Then we caped them leaving them a little loose.
(Make sure you wash the Ball jars before you do this)

The directions called for us to put the cans in a boiling bath of water for about 30-40 minutes. This not only boils the mixture inside the can but it makes it possible for the cans to seal themselves... going from hot to cold once they are removed. The spicy batch was marked with a rubber band. Also you can get a little kit that comes with all the tools you need for canning. We got ours at Callahans.

We also decided to pickle green beans and got a special spice packet just for them. Honestly I've never had pickled beans before but they are the best thing we have made so far! We are still learning....

For beans we steamed them for 15-20 minutes. I like my beans a little crunchy so I think we may have done it for only 10 minutes. Boil the vinegar and spices separate. Shove the beans into the cans and then add the pickle juice in last. We added our own dill in there.

Isn't it pretty.

Lastly we did a mixture of cucumbers (pickles) and zucchini. We have done both of these before with success.

It's actually a lot of fun for us to spend time in the kitchen together laughing and sharing stories. The canning was great and we have well over 20 cans saved up in case of a zombie apocalypse. I guess we will live off of pickles and salsa. I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions feel free to
e-mail me.

Happy canning!

Ohh Em Gee Boutique

I apologize.... this post is very belated. My dear friend Bridget Cordova makes the sweetest accessories ever. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Bridget over the past few years and watched her creativity blossom from a hobby into a business. Her style is whimsical/vintage with a touch of silliness. I'm so happy to feature her jewelery on my site..... I've only been begging her for months now. So here they are!
