The little red Lady tie...

Happy Monday! Is it really Monday already....ugh. I didn't want this weekend to end. I celebrated my 34th Birthday with the Mister Saturday, we went to The Natural History Museum for a few hours (we hadn't been there in a few years) and then went to my new favorite Sushi restaurant Piranha Sushi downtown. Later we got our party on with some very fun friends up the street and unfortunately made the mistake of drinking on an empty stomach which led to feeling all sicky poo Sunday. I haven't done that in such a long time... I forgot how horrible it is to feel hung over. Icky!

Every time I drink too much I get mad at myself for not keeping myself "in check". It's all good though... I think after Saturday night it's going to be a looooong time before I take another sip again! It was fun to let loose just for one night though....

I finally got a chance to wear my little red "lady tie" made by the fabulous Christine of "flapper girl". I'm actually not quite sure if Christine is making these little gems anymore, so I'm super glad that I got a chance to buy one while I could. I've been eyeing them like forever and finally broke down and bought one... they are so worth it! They add that extra something to one's outfit. I went for a classic red color. I figured it would go with almost everything I own and I was right.

I recently went to get my hair trimmed and shaped back up because it had literally been almost a year since I've dyed the ends and things were starting to look pretty gnarly at the bottom. So I go in to get a trim and the hair dresser (bless her heart) took off a little more than 4 inches. I was a tad bit shocked... thank Gawd I'm not one of those people that freak out easily about such things but damn! So my ombre' isn't as noticeable as it once was and my hair is just a tad longer than my shoulders when curled at the bottom. Shocker! So.... I'm still getting used to it. I also broke down and got bangs again. I've had bangs for years and every time I try to grow them out I end up just chopping them.

I took these images when the weather was actually nice in Austin... now it's rainy and cold. I'm so ready for Spring and Summer to arrive. I feel like I've been cooped up in our little house all Winter! It could be worse I suppose... we could still be living in Ohio and be experiencing horrible blizzards right about now. I would not be able to handle that for sure, I've grown accustomed to the mild Texas Winters now.

Well it's officially March 1st so Spring should be right around the corner for us... hopefully it won't be too wet. We do however need the rain here, we've been in a drought for about 7 or 8 years so I guess it would be a blessing to get our Lake levels back up to where they once were. It makes the Summer's more enjoyable too to have a decent watering hole to swim in. Texas has many hidden watering holes to jump into and I'm really looking forward to eventually visiting each and every one of them. My favorite chill spot is The Blue Hole in Georgetown. Now that my BFF and her Husbear have moved to Georgetown we have a great excuse to go there like all the time... it's the perfect spot to just float.

Whoosh!

As you can see I was getting quite the breeze blowing my little skirt up during this photo shoot. I couldn't help but smile and laugh.

I hope everyone had a fun filled weekend as I did! I can't wait to break out these Spring and Summer clothes that I've been holding on to all Winter... I also can't wait to see all my favorite blogger friends Spring trends. Eeeeep!

Leather, Lace and resting bitch face...

Happy Monday Kittens! This is a little bit of a different look for me buy hey.... I'm trying new things. These images actually crack me up.... I have "resting bitch face" throughout the entire shoot. I was taking my own images with a tripod and the little remote thingy and was concentrating so hard on posing and hiding the little remote that I completely forgot about my face. Ha! I don't think I smiled once the entire time. I didn't want them to go to waste and besides... I like my liquid leather leggings.

If you all don't know what "resting bitch face" is.... It's basically a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. That would be me. I also was totally trying to show off my layers I had going on here but it didn't really work out that well. You get the idea though right?

I just love these "liquid leggings" that I got from Old Navy. They were super cheap and look pretty damn hot but they sound like shit. Seriously... I sound like I'm wearing a wind breaker when I walk. You can practically here me coming from a mile away... that's the only downside to them.

Besides the crappy sound they make when I walk they are almost a perf. I guess they are my standing leggings. You know.... for when I want to just stand around and look hot. Ha!

Here's another "bitchy pose" I perfected.

Some things that girl's with "resting bitch face" don't like to hear:
1. Smile, it's not that bad.
2. What's wrong?
3. When I first met you I thought you were a total bitch, but you're really not.

Under the Milkyway...

Is it Monday already?!? This weekend flew by super fast over here in my little world. The Mister and I had a whole long list of chores and home improvements that we both needed to work on... but it seems like they all took longer than expected and that we barely accomplished any of them. We did get to cross some things off of our "to do list" though... but there are plenty of other projects just waiting to be finished. Whew! Sometimes it seems like it's never ending but I guess that's just life in general...

I have been getting a lot of crocheting done and I'm pretty excited about that. Then there is the daunting task of mounting them all which is a pain in the ass... but not as big of a pain as staining the plaques. That's the worst. I can't complain though... I'm thrilled to be working for myself and love what I'm doing and the fact that I get to be super creative everyday. I mean... I crochet and watch Netflix and Hulu all day... it doesn't get much better than that right?! I've pretty much seen almost every new release on Netflix and am having fun re-watching old favorites. There are just some movies that you never get sick of.

It's funny... I've never watched "Donnie Darko" before until the other day. I mean I've seen bits and pieces of it but never watched it all the way through... I can see why it's a cult classic. I love Jake Gyllenhaal and Jena Malone and all the other big time stars that make special appearances throughout the flick. I especially love the song "Under the Milky Way" by The Church. I went ahead and downloaded it off i-tunes and have been playing it over and over again. I'll probably get sick of it eventually and move on to something else soon but I'm enjoying it for right now.

This is an old dress of mine which I like very much but never seem to wear. I've had the Mister take pictures of me in it before but I just never liked the way they've turned out... I recently scored these black booties at my favorite local thrift store and purchased this everyday black cardigan from Target that goes with anything and everything and guess what? I finally found the look that I was going for. I added a chunky gold chain necklace and bracelet and my favorite round sunnies and was ready to go!

I love when I find things that go great together... now I know that this is a look that I can quickly "go to" when I'm in a hurry or am feeling rushed to get ready. It's pretty simple and looks "pulled together" nicely. It also helps when I am planning outfits to wear for shows as well. I'm getting ready to head out of town to Houston for about five days with some dear friends to participate in a show called Pop Shop Houston and I need some pretty dresses that I can move in and that will keep me cool when I get all flustered and hot. Of course I won't be wearing these booties... I have some comfy flats that I usually wear during shows but I always like to look my best. Cardigans are great because you can always take off layers when you start to get warm and usually by the end of the day my hair will get pulled up and worn in a little top knot.

Speaking of hair... I know I've said this before but I'm just still super excited about my new Ombre' hair do! It must be because it's been so long since I've had a new look. I've literally been dying my hair the same red color from a box for the past five years (which I love the color... don't get me wrong) I just love this new edgy look. It's like a new me in a sense. My style has definitely changed since I first started this blog back in 2010. It's almost embarrassing the way I used to dress. It was cute but I didn't start developing my own sense of what I liked or what really felt like me until recently. I don't know... maybe that's just they way I perceive it. I feel way more mature and refined now than I did in past outfit posts... I also feel more confident which is a big deal for me.

Hope everyone had an awesome Halloween weekend and are recovering from having loads of fun. I'd love to hear about how everyone else's style has changed over the years... comments are always welcome!

The crop top....

Happy Monday kittens! Wow, my weekend flew by super fast. Light speed almost. I've been super busy lately with my little crochet business. I came back from vacation with a bunch of orders to fill! I can't complain... this is what I wanted.... a successful business. I have to admit... I panicked at first, but I got everything organized and dove in head first. It's exciting yet scary at the same time... I love owning my own business though. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Lets talk about this crop top! This is my first time wearing one ya'll... I never even wore one as a tiny child growing up in the 80's! I've seen other gals wear them and always thought to myself "Gee, I'd love to be able to pull that off." I never ever thought I could or would. I guess it's a small accomplishment. I fell in love with this striped crop top when I saw it at Forever 21. I liked the fact that it has long sleeves and has a high collar.... so it off sets the shortness (crop) of it.

I think the secret to wearing a crop top (for us regular sized gals) is wearing a high waisted skirt or bottom paired with it. It covers all your lady parts while flattering your waist at the same time. I also like that you only see a sliver or hint of my stomach. Just enough.....

I also nabbed this awesome HUGE chunky chain necklace while I was there
(which was my soul purpose for actually going to XXI). I saw it in Lucky Magazine and had to have it. I just love dressing up and accessorizing my outfits. I'm so much more into jewelry and makeup now than I ever was in the past. It's so much fun! This chunky necklace goes perfectly with my charm bracelet!

Now that my bangs are growing out I've been paying a lot more attention to my brows... eye brows that is. Ha! I've never really had to fuss with them too much because my bangs always covered them up. Now I've been filling them in and shaping them more and they look amazing! I have four different products that I've found and use and just love. I'll have to do a mini tutorial and show ya'll what products I'm into lately. Squeeeee!

It's so weird.... I've always had low self esteem (like majorly) but recently I've felt super confident and am actually learning to be "okay" with who I am as a woman. Why the hell did it take me 33 years to get to this point in my life? I guess I'm just a late bloomer so to speak. Better late than never I guess. Anyhow, it's awesome. It feels good.

I can't wait for the Fall weather to arrive here in Austin. We actually had a cold snap this weekend and I got a taste of Autumn. It was short lived and now it's back in the 90's.... at least it's not in the 100's anymore. I've got some amazing Fall outfits lined up and ready to go. I'm also looking forward to ALL Fall traditions including starting up our fire pit in the back yard. We just purchased a new one and are currently waiting on the cool weather and stores to start selling firewood and then it's ON! I love sitting in the backyard with The Mister, sipping on some Malbec (my favorite) reminiscing on our past adventures together. That's the best! What are some of y'alls favorite Fall traditions?

Creamsicle...

Hi kittens! I just loved this little vintage number that I borrowed from the lovely Hannah of
The Braided Bandit so much that I had to share this post here on my bloggy as well as on

I have to admit... I love the color of this vintage dress so much because it reminds me of a Creamsicle (hence the title of the post). I decided to pair it with this cobalt blue cardigan and scarf to add some contrasting color to the look which I think worked out pretty swell... don't ya think?

Of course my retro sixties vibe wouldn't be complete without knee socks. Gotta love them!

I wish I would have opted for my black wedges instead of these tired old yellow ones, but you can't win them all now can you? Ha!

The BIG hair is back and I'm pretty keen on these little pig tails I'm wearing.

I'm obsessed with this light pink frosted lipstick that I bought from Target... it's Wet & Wild. It's actually highly pigmented (which is nice) and was all but a few dollars. I've also mastered the art of faux eyelashes. Practice indeed does make perfect.

This weekend was pretty productive. I got a lot of crocheting done and started to mount and price all my pieces for the upcoming Austin Craft Riot Show. I swear, packing all my work into boxes and writing down my inventory list feels so rewarding!! I've been working hard and hopefully all my work will pay off. Literally, this lady needs some money! Ha! I also applied for The Cherrywood Art Fair (which is a BIG show). I can check that off my list too now. Whew! Friday I had lunch with an old work colleague which was fun. We chatted and got caught up on the last ten months that we hadn't seen each other. My BFF Christopher came over Friday after work as well and we enjoyed the shockingly cool weather (mid 90's) for August. We then ventured to Pedernales on Sunday for a group hike followed by swimming with our mutual buddy Philip. More on that later. It was a glorious weekend indeed!!

What did everyone else get into this weekend?
Any adventures? I'd love to hear about them all. I just love reading all your sweet comments... they brighten my day and bring a smile to my face.

Put a Bow on it

Happy Hump Day! It's official.... well almost.
I've finally submitted a proposal to a publishing company
about possibly getting my crochet taxidermy book made. Gah! Can you believe it. I've been putting it off for so long but I finally got up enough courage to just do it. I'm really nervous about it but what's the worst that can happen? I just have to go for it and see what comes of it.... ya know? I've never written a proposal before and I have to admit it was pretty informal. They wanted it submitted through e-mail and only required certain bits of information and some links to view my work. It can take up to two months for them to contact me because of the high volume of submissions they receive so it's going to be a waiting game now. Eeeeeep! We shall see.... wish me luck!!!

On another topic... I found this fun blouse at my local thrift store that I frequent. I've been scoring tons of fun pieces there lately. I have to say... I feel like I've been blessed with a gift from the Thrift Store Gods. I have a knack of finding awesome things. Don't be jealous. Ha!

Still rockin' the BIG hair. I just can't help myself.... I feel more glamorous this way and it's oh so fun. It's really hard to look good in this hot, humid weather we've been having in Austin lately. I don't think it's ever been this muggy since the Mister and I have moved here years ago... but then again I don't think it's ever truly rained since we've lived here either. Ha! Seriously, Austin has been in a drought for like 7 years now! We need all the rain we can get and hopefully Lake Travis will fill back up again.

This black skirt has become my "go to" clothing piece now. The cut and material flatter my hour glass figure so well.... and it goes with pretty much everything. It's been pretty handy and it was a mere $6 dollars from Forever 21! You can't beat that with a stick.

I've been sticking to the front porch for pictures on account of the heat so you'll be seeing this turquoise background a lot. I don't mind it... I quite like the bold color as my back drop. The Mister and I have some exciting projects that we have planned for this Summer. It's all about fixing up the house and making it a nicer place for us to live. We are really working on sprucing up our screened in porch because that's where we spend the majority of our time in the Summer. Matt got some re-claimed wood from a job site that he's been working on and we plan on making an adirondack bench for the patio. Yay! We already have two bright orange adirondack chairs but we want a couple's bench to set across from the chairs. It'll be nice when we entertain guests.

The Husbear also found some time in his busy schedule to replace our kitchen lights with two sputnik chandlers!! They look amazing and really have that mid century, modern vibe that we love so much. I can't wait for people to see them! If you follow me on Instagram then you've already had a sneak peek. He actually bought them a long time ago and was planning on putting them in another room but we finally decided to hang them over the kitchen bar and I'm so glad we did! I love it when we get projects done and get to check them off the ol' "to do" list.

Besides working on the house... I'm still working on myself. I've been exercising and eating clean religiously! I think some people just have to work at it extra hard in order to see or feel a difference. Slowly... I'll get to where I wanna be. For now... I'm already feeling better. That's the goal! I actually love my morning jog... it gives me a chance to clear my mind and it's fun to see all the little lizards running around back and forth on the trails. I love this time of year when the sound of the cicadas are all around you and the dragonflies hover just over the tall grass in the summer heat.

Thanks for stopping by my little ol' bloggy. Looking forward to the weekend already!

big hair... don't care

Hey there kittens! How was every one's 4th of July weekend? Mine was fantastic and memorable. I got to spend time with my sweet nephews Ben & Max and sit and visit with my in laws. It was nice to catch up with them as it's been too long. It's funny.. we live in the same city but it's just so dang hard to find time out of our busy schedules to get together. Life just happens and you get "caught up" in the daily hub bub of things I suppose. We also had a little bonus... on top of seeing my brother and sister in law and their sweet children we got to see some dear old friends that we haven't hung out with in years. Literally.... years! Melissa and Mark Gates (that used to live in A-Town) retired early and moved to Panama and lived in the Mountains for a few years and have now decided to move back and just travel 3 months out of the year... which I'm sure is much more convenient. They missed the States and we all missed them. So yea for all of us!

I also got a surprise Saturday night when I discovered my little cousin Sarah and her new husband Romy were both in San Antonio... which is a hop skip and a jump away from us. I had to miss her wedding but couldn't miss the opportunity to meet up with them and have some good ol' fashioned Tex Mex. So the Husbear and I jumped in the car and headed to San Antonio. What a sweet weekend indeed! Pictures to follow...

We also went to a very bitter sweet memorial for a dear friend of Matt's. Our friend Lynn lost her battle to MS a few months ago and her whole family, including a ton of friends got together on July 5th to celebrate her life. She really was a remarkable woman... she lived life to the fullest. She was such a kind and gentle person. I aspire to live my life as she did with and open heart and just be a "good person". I really don't know how else to put it.... she was just such a good person at heart. We can all learn a lesson from the Lynn's of the world.

I'm really excited about this outfit post. I've been doing my hair up real big (when I have the chance)... I rather like it. It does take a lot of hairspray and back combing so I don't do it often. I'm obsessed with women's hairstyles of the 60's and 70's right now... I think I've been watching a little too much "Mad Men". What can I say... I likes what I likes.

This top I purchased from a local thrift store. It was so crazy and tropical I just had too buy it. The busier the better! It's Austin and I think anything goes here.

I've been wearing a bunch of ghetto fabulous jewelry lately too. I like to play around and switch things up a bit. It's all in good fun.

I can't wait to read and hear all about everyones Holiday weekend. I'm sure there will be a bunch of fun and colorful post come this Monday morning.

xoxo
