Fall DIY Wreath

Fall is in the air and Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I'm so excited with all the festivities that are going to take place.... loads of family and cooking, not to mention yummy spiked holiday drinks! Those really make the season festive. More on that later.....

Last year I created a DIY wreath with felt and wanted to post a very clever new DIY.
This design is featured on nest of posies.

I'm so stoked to make this one! I'm loving these colors and they even match my house! Believe it or not my house is Tropical Teal and Cornucopia Orange and Brown. We live in a really colorful neighborhood called AGAVE. I don't believe that fall colors have to be all brown's, orange's and umber's.

You can purchase Styrofoam wreaths in various sizes at any local craft store for this project...typically they are in the floral section.

All you really need is yarn (in your choice of color) to wrap around the Styrofoam wreath gluing it in a few sections with tacky glue to secure it along the way. I would say use a hot glue gun but I'm not sure if that would break down the Styrofoam. After you completed wrapping the yarn around the wreath then it's time to move onto the leaves!

You can use your own pattern or download this pattern seen below.

Once you trace and cut out 20 leaves.... you will end up doubling them up and gluing them together.
First you have to stitch the veins onto the front face of the first 10 leaves. You will use craft floss as seen above using an embroidery needle. You can match your floss to the leaves or mix and match the colors. Make sure that when you start and end your stitches you are finishing them off on the same side because you will be gluing that side down. Always hide you unfinished ends.

Once all your leaves are stitched and glued to the backs then it's time to actually glue them onto the wreath. I would say at this point it's okay to break out the hot glue gun. Glue the finished felt leaves onto the wreath in any pattern that you desire. Tie a ribbon to the wreath to finish and hang. Voila!
