Lucky girl on a cloudy day.....

Happy Thursday! The work week is almost over and I am so looking forward to the weekend! I love my weekends, they are so dear to me. It's my time to spend with Lucy and the Mister, to be creative and tend to our garden. I love to be out doors with the chickens and Lucy and have the sun warming me.
This last Sunday the Mister and I got to hang out with our friends and neighbor's Elizabeth and Jason. We watched Arrested Development on Netflix and drank and ate great food. I'm sad that they are moving to Seattle (Jason was offered a job with Microsoft) but so excited for them and the fact that they are moving to such an awesome city! Our old dear friends Trish and Chris Olives were there as well, it was really great to re-connect with them. It's been way too long.
I've been crocheting like a mad woman to get a full stock made and ready to go for First Thursday and Parts & Labour. I'm also working on some new patterns created by yours truly that I'm really proud of. There is a big Craft Riot show in August and I want to have everything all set when the time comes. This last Sunday I stained a bunch of plaques for the animal heads and my nails are a wreck! I also managed to strain my left thumb because of all the crazy crocheting.
It's been raining cats and dogs for the past two days.... you don't here me complaining though. Austin needs all the rain it can get, plus I don't have to water our garden! This day was partly cloudy and sunny and super windy! I was having issues with the wind blowing my hair (bangs) in the opposite direction that it was parted on .... which made for a difficult photo shoot. I could only pose facing one direction! Ha.... my hair kinda looks like the Donald's comb over. I've been trying to grow out my bangs (which explains the awkward length) for a few months now but really, really want to cut them so badly! I may have bangs in my next post. We will see how long I can stand it. What do your guys think? Should I let them grow or cut them?
This is the last patch of wild flowers that The Mister and I could find in our neighborhood....soon the grass will be dead and brown from the summer heat. I am making sure to enjoy the flowers while they last. Hopefully all this rain will help them out.
I'm wearing my lucky wishbone necklace that the Mister bought me several Christmas's ago. He bought it at this little boutique in Pflugerville, Texas that I used to sell some of my plushie toys to. They had the most unique jewelry there. He is so good at picking out clothes/accessories for me. It's a gift that most men don't posses. Ha.

I ended up shoving these little wishbone studs into my ears so that they would match the necklace. I regretted it later.... my ears are super sensitive and I really haven't been able to wear anything in them for the last few years without them getting all itchy, believe me I've tried everything. Oh well, I got to show them off once. Le sigh.......I just love my new round sunnies that I bought at Target.
I hope everyone has fun plans for this weekend. I'm going to be a busy bee with all the projects going on. I'm going to be trying out some fun DIY's and if they turn out well I will be posting them! I also will be updating everyone on our awesome garden and sharing with you all my newest  crochet creations. There will be a fun giveaway thrown into the mix too. Busy busy! What are your plans for this weekend?

Fist full of wild flowers

Hello lovies! I'm so excited about this daily wear post. The reason for the excitement is that I'm so in love with these images. I know that may sound vain but it's not..... I rarely like pictures of myself. Pretty dumb to have a fashion blog then eh? Well, I'm working on being a more positive person... in the meantime I'm going to enjoy the moment.
I found this lovely little frock at the thrift store that I frequent. I was afraid that it wasn't going to fit at first but it was my lucky day. It was brand new from Forever 21 with the tags still attached! It was a great day at the thrift store, I scored big time.
I love the view from our backyard... I'm forever using the wild flowers as my back drop.... I just adore wildflowers and there are so many blooming all over Austin right now. The caterpillars are starting to form their chrysalises. You can find them all over our backyard in the most random places. Soon the will hatch from their cocoons and there will be beautiful butterflies all over our property. It's a glorious time of year.
I recently just found these old sunnies.... I had misplaced them for quite awhile and was so happy when I found them. They are my huge, 70's style sun glasses that I had purchased at Target ages ago.
This belt is thrifted as well. I actually don't recall where I got it from.... I know it was when I was living in Ohio. I haven't really worn it other for than photo shoots but I rather like it and think I might keep it handy for special occasions. The necklace is made by my dear friend Brigitte Cordova of A hundred cups of tea and a cup cake. You must check out her blog and her boutique.
These boots are thrifted as well. I love them and have worn the life out of em, got them resoled and still won't give them up. They are scuffed and broke down just they way I like them.
The Mister did such a good job taking these photo's.... he always helps me pose and is really helpful with telling me what to do. He makes me feel so comfortable and always makes me smile.

I've been having so much fun styling new and used clothing from my wardrobe. I've been mixing and matching pieces that I didn't think would normally go together and creating whole new looks for outfits. I can't wait to share them with you. There is other exciting news as well.... our garden is growing so fast! We are already getting more green beans than we can handle. Our tomatoes are slowly growing but my herb garden is blowin' up! The chicken's are flying around like crazy birds. We also have two baby finches that were born 2 weeks ago that have tripled in size and have now opened their eyes for the first time the other day. They are so loud when they chirp. We seriously have a little farm at the Hart Ranch. Lol.
Hope everything is having a great weekend.

Sunday currently vol. 1

reading... Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I walked into Book People and asked an employee to help me find a "tragic story".... I'm really into internal struggles and tortured souls. It's proving to be a good read.

writing... I've been pouring my heart out in my journal. It's good to get out my emotions and vent, it's therapeutic. I also have a note pad and pen stashed in my purse with me at all times in case I have an important thought or idea for my blog that I need to jot down.

listening... I just discovered Jake Bugg recently and can't stop listening to his dreamy voice. I'm loving "Seen it All".

thinking... I've been thinking a whole lot lately about life and how it's too precious, sweet and short to waste time on "what if's".... I want to take risks and chances and not have any regrets.

smelling... sun tan lotion. I've been applying sun screen every morning before I go to work on my legs and arms and get a whiff of it every now and then throughout the day, it reminds me of vacation and makes me all happy and smiley on the inside.

wishing... that life was easier sometimes. For the past few years it's been raining cats and dog's on my parade. It's hard some days to find balance in life and to keep hanging on.

hoping... that with these new positive changes in my life that I will grow and change as a person and be the best person I can be. I have recently made some life changing decisions that are going to effect me in many ways, hopefully all positive.

wearing... I've been obsessed with dresses, boots and hats. I've got a major hat fetish going on right now, I want to cover my face from those harmful summer rays. I'm a boot girl at heart and feel more comfortable in a dress than I do in blue jeans.

loving... My little baby girl Lucy. She is my "hair child". I don't have any of my own children so Lucy is my baby. My heart swells at the thought of her waiting by the door when I come home from work at the end of the day.

wanting... A relaxing weekend with Lucy and the Mister. We don't have to go anywhere..... just relax with each other in the park, maybe have a picnic or read a book. Or go for a swim in Barton Springs.

needing... To get my little crochet business "Nothing but a Pigeon" organised. I really need to open up a separate bank account and really focus on the sales and production of my work. If I'm going to be serious about it as a job I need to invest more time and some money in cards and displaying my products and online sales.

feeling... worn out. I've been sleeping horribly lately and need some good old fashioned R&R. I would love to take a day to sleep in without any interruptions.

clicking... I've been watching "Hemlock Grove" on netflix and cannot get enough of it! I can't wait for season two to come out. I've also been perusing other people's blogs and finding new hidden gems and meeting new contacts. It's been pretty awesome with these link ups. It makes it so easy to see what else is out there. I have met many new and interesting people.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Till Monday my dears.

The Antique Rose Emporium

This is the beautiful Brenham, Texas. Matt and I as you may know took a little joyride to The Antique Rose Emporium. After seeing my good friend Mandy's photographs I decided that I had to go there and see it for myself. We drove out a little over two weeks ago (my how time does fly) and spent the day window shopping at antique stores. We stopped to grab a bite to eat and then took off again to our final destination of the day.

We weren't sure if it was open or not...the website eluded to the fact that it may be closed on Sunday's. We took a chance a drove out there and were pleasantly surprised that it was indeed open for business.

The scenery was just breath taking...like you were walking through a Monet painting. Roses as far as the eye can see.....I was truly amazed.

It was like heaven walking through rows and rows of flowers. They had tiny little cottages throughout the property, a gift shop and a church with gazebo. It would be the perfect place to have a wedding. Truly magical.

It's funny...there were so many variety of roses but my favorite flowers are the little tiny orange wildflowers.

These are huge iron structures for the rose bushes to grow on. Soon they will be think and full of roses and will provide shade for the benches below. It was a very hot day.

This is a house that I assume the guests stay in when they are having an event. It was the cutest, perfect little house that I would love to live in.

Here is the walkway leading from the gazebo to the house. Enchanting isn't it?

These little guys were everywhere. Perfect place to live if I were a little Gecko.

This was the most precious little children's garden straight out of a fairy tail.

Yet another little lizard. I love spotting lizards....I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it's because I'm from Ohio and I'm still amazed by the sight of them.

Look at these lovelies. I would love to go back to Brenham in the near future but am excited to explore uncharted territory. Maybe it's just the explorer in me. Hope you all enjoyed these magical pictures....sadly it was so hot my makeup melted and I looked like something the cat dragged in and I didn't want to subject you to seeing photograph's of me looking all a mess. Till our next adventure!!

Summer breeze and blacked eyed Susans

Hey there lovies. I'm so excited to share with you my latest outfit post. We've had a heat wave here in Austin recently... I mean HOT! It's been in the upper 90's but with the heat index it makes it feel more like in the 100's. It's really hard to look your best when you are withering in the sun if you know what I mean. I usually find it easiest to keep things simple and throw on a nice breathable dress, hat and sunnies and call it a day. I'm a boot girl at heart.... so you will always see me running around in boots even on the hottest day. I just find them more comfortable. Today I'm linking up with Along Abby Road, Gentri Lee and Haircut and General Attitude for a Summer Style Link-Up!! I've never done this before so hope this works. Eeeeeep!

The beach

Happy Monday everyone! As promised I have a lot to post about. I'm so excited to share with ya'll my beach adventure. As you may or may not know the Mister and I love to escape the city and go to the coast every so often. We love to camp and frolic at Mustang Island.... it's just a little over a four hour drive from Austin which isn't bad at all, but far enough to make it feel like you in a tropical paradise. We have been here a handful of times and now it's a tradition. I love creating our own little family tradition's.... do you?

The Mister has dear friends that let us stay at their beach house every so often. We were actually planning on camping this go around but it turns out that the house was empty and was graciously offered to us to use. It worked out perfectly because Lucy has been really sore lately. She's getting older and her hips hurt her.... she's been jumping off the bed and couch when she shouldn't be and it's caused her major pain. So we took her to the vet and they prescribed her little puppy pain medication and a small dose of steroids. It was convenient because camping with a sore pup isn't a very good idea.

It rained the first night we were there but it was actually pleasant because we got in from the drive around 8pm or so. So we unpacked and watched a movie as we cuddled and shared some wine. It's funny.... it's actually nice to just stay in sometimes and not do anything at all.

The next day was partly cloudy with pockets of sunlight every so often. We set up our huge 10x10 tent that we actually bought for the purpose of me to use as a vendor.... but it is nice to use at the beach as well. Bonus! We set up our chairs and chilled for the good half of the day. The Mister had packed some adult beverages ans some lunchables so we were all set.

Lucy seemed to be doing well and had a great time chasing seagulls and digging in the sand. She loves to explore her surroundings.

There was a huge tree that had washed ashore with all sorts of barnacles and muscles attached to it. The gulls had a field day pecking at the shells trying to get a little tasty treat.

Wow! The sun sure does take it out of you. Nap time is always welcome on the beach.... especially for tiny, precious pups.

 Lucy taking in her surroundings.

We saw so many variety of birds this time around. We think some were migrating so it brought them to Mustang Island for the time. It was really cool to see 3 different types of sand pipers and various types of seagulls and pelicans. There were also many types of herring too! As always, every time we visit we see dolphins. No jellyfish this time.

These are the wind turbines that we always drive by on the way home. They are awesomely huge. All in all it was a great trip even though the weather was a little spoty. Like every trip we didn't want to leave but then when we got on the road we couldn't wait to get home and sleep in our own bed. I really wish we could visit Mustang Island more often but we have a garden and two crazy chicks that we are raising right now so we can't be as adventurous as we would like to be at times. But I love coming home and tending to our plants and watching the chicks grow up and do wacky things. Which reminds me the Mister is finishing up the coop for our new farm family so I will be sharing some photos of the finished product as well as our garden that is full of herbs and veggies! I can't wait. I hope everyone is having a fun Spring.
