The Mister and I decided to use our Saturday morning to pick up some fresh vegetables and other delicious local treats. This Farm to Market is located in downtown Austin. It ended up being smaller than usual on account that they were moved due to construction..... however it didn't prove to be disappointing. Check out what we ended up with.
That's Matt's hands reaching for some fresh beets. We are obsessed with beets.... pickled beets, boiled beets and beet chips. I suggest you try making them sometime.... basically they are baked on low for a long time to dehydrate them. Sprinkle a little salt on them before putting them into the oven. Voila! Beet chips.
This guy was selling sprouts. I ended up buying a bag of sunflower sprouts. They were delicious! You can add them to a salad, a sandwich or on top of a meal for garnish. I ended up throwing into a cucumber salad that I whipped up.
This is a close up of what they look like.
We also got a good deal on Portabello mushrooms. We live off these guys. We use them in practically everything we eat.
Fresh flowers for the one you love.
I had to get a picture of this guy... I love kilts but thought it was pretty funny that it was a Hawaiian pattern. Also the shoes with the toes in them tucked into his belt.
We bought some Bison meat from this guy. Very cool.
If you've never had Bison meat it's the most delicious meat I have ever tasted. The Bison are free range and are grass feed and aren't injected with any chemicals what so ever. Unlike other meat you find in the grocery store this meat is lean and healthy for you.
Lastly Matt and I love cheese. Who doesn't.... cheese is good with everything. We usually eat it paired with fruit, bread and wine. It's the little things in life that we enjoy and cheese is one of them. Of course Matt went for the Spicy Texan. We ate it with dinner that night and yes, it was spicy.
So that was our Saturday morning. We go to a lot of Farmers Markets so you will probably be seeing more posts in the future. We try to make it a point to buy locally and support our local farmers. Hope you enjoyed the post.
XOXO
