Our Front Yard

I know you have seen our backyard garden that we are so proud of.... so I thought I would take the time to show you our front yard that Matt has worked so hard on. We live in a
"Green Community" called Agave. It's a Modern house that is energy efficient and designed by Rick Black a well known local Architect here in Austin. Our front yard is mostly Zero-scaped as you will see in my pictures. So here we go!

We love weathered wood. We found the piece in Wimberly Texas.

It seems like we are always picking up wood for decoration. We usually find good pieces when we hike along the Gus Fruth

Matt and I still haven't figured out what type of flowering plant this is. We know it's native to Texas but that's about it. If you have a clue we would love to know.

We have two big pampas plants in the front. I love them... they are so easy to care for and look beautiful when they are blowing in the breeze.Oh and there's my shadow.

Pampas grass bloom.

Cactus blooms

Another view.

This is an Royal Empress Tree that Matt planted. It's grown so much from when we first moved in.

Here's a close up of the leaves. They are extremely huge.
It's actually the fastest growing and flowering tree.

Pampas Grass

A Trumpet Vine

Here's another view of the front.

I love love love our rosemary bush. It's so nice to be able to just walk into your own yard and get fresh herbs to use for your recipes.

When The Mister waters the front yard the rosemary smell carries through the air. So lovely.

Here is detail of a cactus that we hauled all the way from Ohio. It was given to us from Matt's parents Cindy and Jack. We could only take so much so Matt chose this one and the rest we gave to our neighbor.

We decided to throw some succulents into the base of the cactus and they took off! Now they are spilling over. The good thing about succulents is when they break off or you cut them off you can get new grow from them and start a whole new plant. They are so easy to maintain since they don't require much watering.

This is the very dangerous Madagascar plant. It's grown so much in there years. When we first got it it was a foot tall. Now it towers over me almost reaching 6 feet!

Another piece of weathered wood next to our mysterious plant.

Wild flowers growing near the side of of our house.

I love they way the sun filters through.

This is our lovely Passion vine. It's been growing here since we moved in 3 years ago. It's a really aggressive plant and has managed to grow from the front of our gate all the way to our backyard and up to the second floor. It's quite amazing and the blooms are so unusual.

Front gate from our driveway to the backyard.

This is a tin ornament that The Mister bought for us.

This is the back of the gate where the Passion vine has managed to take over.

Mr. Man put a wire from the bottom of the fence to the second floor so the vine has something to grow on. We are hoping it will cover our second story window so it will provide us with some shade and privacy.

Here are the fantastic blooms!

This is a Buddha plant that we picked out together at

Here is the blossom it produces. It took a long time for this plant to get this far. It almost died from rot but Matt managed to bring it back to life. This is my favorite plant that we own. I guess it's sentimental to me because it was one of the first plants we bought together when we moved to Austin.

We decorated the base with sea shells that we got from Mustang Island a few years back.

Little baby seeds cases.

And lastly my little friend the Garden Gnome.

I hope you liked my front yard garden post. There is more to come.

XOXO
